Welcome to the first volleyball update of the season. Below you'll find everything officials need to prepare for the 2026 season, with registration and recognition forms linked in each section.


Training Opportunity

In-person summer training runs at 5:45 PM:

Rules Meetings

Online Rules Meeting

Available at the end of July on the KSHSAA Central Hub via the Arbiter.

In-Person Rules Meetings — 7:00 PM

  • Thursday, August 6— Olathe West HS

  • Wednesday, August 12— Topeka, KSHSAA Office

  • Thursday, August 20— Live Webinar

* You must attend either an in-person rules meeting or the online rules meeting to be post-season eligible.

Officials Clinic

Saturday - August 15th - Shawnee Mission Northwest HS - 8:00AM

  • Registration starts at 7:30

  • Geared for officials registered for 10 years or less

  • Casual attire -- no uniform necessary, be sure to bring a whistle (Fox 40 is preferred)

  • There will be classroom presentations, on-court work, and live scrimmaging

  • About KSOA Volleyball

    The Kansas Sports Officials Association provides a path for excellence in officiating for our volleyball officials through recruitment, training, evaluation, and networking. If you are not currently a KSOA volleyball official, we encourage you to take a look around our website, specifically at our Member Benefits, Bylaws and Frequently Asked Questions.

     

    Becoming a KSOA member is easy and can be done completely online. The application to become a member can be found under Join Now and your options to pay annual dues are clearly laid out under Pay Dues. Annual dues are $40 for one sport, $50 for two sports, and $60 for three or more sports (a 3% transaction fee is charged for PayPal and credit card payments). If you have any questions about membership in the KSOA, don't hesitate to email our Membership Committee at [email protected].

  • Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA)


    In order to officiate high school volleyball, referees must be registered with the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA). Click on the KSHSAA logo to learn more and to register as a KSHSAA official. The KSHSAA administrator for volleyball is Sarah Smith.

    KSHSAA Requirements to Officiate High School Volleyball

    • Register with and pay KSHSAA dues

    • Successful completion of a NFHS Volleyball rules test (a score of 90 or higher to be eligible to officiate post season contests)

    • Attend a KSHSAA rules meeting (must attend an in-person meeting this year)

    Please note the following important 2024-25 KSHSAA Volleyball dates:

    August 17: Beginning Practice Date

    August 28: Games Begin

    October 24: Sub-State Tournaments

    October 29-31: State Tournaments

    *KSHSAA volleyball referees must attend an in-person rules meeting this year. A full list of meeting dates and times can be found here.

    The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) is the overarching governing body of high school volleyball. Below are links to NFHS Volleyball publications.

  • Call the Game (CTG)


    Call the Game (John Dehan) is the Director of Officials, assigning volleyball officials for the following high schools:

    • Crossroads Conference

    • Eastern Kansas League (EKL)

    • Meadowlark Conference

    • Sunflower League

    • United Kansas Conference (UKC)
